The challenges of globalization and the Muslim world
On the whole, there is an unfortunate absence in the Muslim world of a realistic and critical reflection on the global scenario, the prospects and opportunities afforded by it, and the challenges faced by the Muslim community. By and large, the perception and response of the Muslim world to the challenges of globalization seems to be foggy, confused and out of focus. In my view, the challenges of globalization in respect of the Muslim world cover the following seven areas: (1) the knowledge deficit (2) the economic and technological wilderness (3) human rights (4) global culture and secularization (5) Islamophobia (6) Muslim diaporas (7) the dependency syndrome.
